On this World Environment Day, we pause to reflect on why we do what we do. Why we map the future. Not just as a business, but as part of a broader movement to restore balance between people, planet, and progress.

At SurplusMap, we believe maps can do more than show us where we are - they can show us where we need to go. Our mission is to accelerate the green transition by helping decision-makers discover and act on spatial opportunities that benefit both people and the planet.

SurplusMap making the invisible visible

World Environment Day isn’t just a symbolic moment - it’s a call to real action. The crises of climate change, nature loss, and resource stress are all deeply spatial. They unfold across land, infrastructure, and ecosystems - and yet, they often remain invisible in day-to-day decisions.

That’s why we’re in business: to make the invisible visible. SurplusMap provides spatial intelligence that helps actors understand where to invest, plan and develop by getting market insights.

For example, in a pilot with Oslo kommune, we helped map the city’s network of EV chargers, both public and private, to better understand charging behavior and forecast future utilization. By visualizing this data in spatial context, planners were empowered to make more informed infrastructure decisions that align with both mobility needs and climate goals. We’re not claiming to fix the environment - but we are committed to equipping those who can with better tools and insights.

Mapping what matters

Our vision is to enable a smarter and more sustainable world by optimizing the green energy supply and demand. That means a world where capital and creativity flow toward the most meaningful, place-based opportunities - where local and global actors align through shared spatial understanding.

We don’t just build maps. We build clarity - offering a platform that helps public agencies, investors, and developers see their decisions in spatial context. We aim to help them make smarter, more sustainable choices.

And let's be honest: sustainability is not a checkbox - it’s a balancing act that requires context, collaboration, and long-term thinking.

Looking ahead

World Environment Day is a reminder that change is not only necessary - it’s possible. Our commitment is to continue building the tools, partnerships, and perspectives that enable more equitable and impactful decisions at scale.

Whether you’re a city planner, a climate investor, or a community leader, you have a role to play. We’re here to help you find your place in the map of solutions - one informed decision at a time.

Let’s chart a better course, together.
